  • Allard Pierson Museum - The Archeological Museum of the University of Amsterdam has a rich collection of art and artifacts from the world's ancient civilizations.
  • Amsterdam Historical Museum - The Amsterdam Historical Museum, housed in the splendid 17th-century building of the former civic orphanage, tells the history of Amsterdam. The museum has a large collection of art and artifacts. From medieval shoes to a 1998 Gay Games rainbow umbrella - it's all at the museum.
  • Anne Frank House - At the Anne Frank House in the center of Amsterdam you can find the hiding place where Anne Frank wrote her famous diary during World War Two. The original of the diary is on display as part of the Anne Frank House's permanent exhibition.
  • Van Gogh Museum - The newly-renovated Van Gogh Museum houses an enormous collection of work by Vincent and his contemporaries.
  • Rijksmuseum - One day isn't enough time to see all the treasures housed within the Netherlands National Museum. The focus is on the Dutch Old Masters and includes Rembrandt's "Nightwatch". Website opens in December 1999.
  • Stedelijk Museum - The Stedelijk Museum is the most important museum of modern and contemporary art in The Netherlands.   • Tropenmuseum - The Tropenmuseum is the largest anthropological museum in the Netherlands.   • Tweede Kamer - Ask an old time Amsterdammer where to get a good piece of hashish and 7 out of 10 times they'll recommend the Tweede Kamer. This tiny, cozy but elegant shop was started ten years ago as a hobby.
